The lightning damage area of effect caused by this skill does not count as a melee hit for purposes of effects like Fortify.

This is a Support Gem. It does not grant a bonus to your character, but to skills in sockets connected to it. Place into an item socket connected to a socket containing the Skill Gem you wish to augment. Right click to remove from a socket. would be comparatively worse as it causes skills to deal less damage. Additionally, because of the Vaal Smite buff granting regular Smite an additional target, Ancestral Call may be unnecessary in general.
The area damage from lightning bolts can overlap, causing additional damage to a target if there are nearby enemies.
The aura from this skill does not stack with the aura from regular Smite: Vaal Smite has priority (even if it's weaker).[1]

Alternate skill effects
Vaal Smite has the following alternate skill effects:
Vaal skills are granted by Vaal skill gems, a special type of corrupt skill gem that grants an alternative version of the skill with powerful added effects fueled by the souls of slain enemies, as well as the regular version of the skill.
Vaal Orb is a currency item that will corrupt an item, causing unpredictable and possibly powerful results. Once an item is corrupted, it can only be modified by Tainted Currency or Crafting Bench. You can still craft sockets and links at a Crafting Bench by using Vaal Orbs in addition to the requirements.
The soul gain prevention is global, which means you will not be able to gain any souls for any vaal skill at all. A vaal gem that collected souls in an instance will keep these souls during a gem swap, a drop on the ground or putting it in the inventory afterwards.
90% is a good general number to aim for - getting close to 95% (which is the max possible) is very difficult and not usually worth it. Unless you totally rely on crit, 90 to 95 is negligible. As soon as crit is involved you better hit 95% for damage.
To do this, you will need a Vaal Orb. This is a currency orb that will corrupt an item. You can find Vaal Orbs by slaying monsters, breaking containers, or as a drop from Strongboxes. To use the Vaal Orb, right-click on the orb, and then left-click on the gem.
Best bet is uber lab farming if you want tk find it yourself. The end of lab chests sometimes drop a bunch of hugh quality gems. The Ancient Gems chest in Delve can drop 21/20 vaal gems.
One of the most commonly used skill gems in the entire game is Vaal Discipline. This is often created by using a Vaal Orb on a Discipline skill gem. Using a Vaal Orb on a skill gem has a chance to change its level by one. If you level a skill gem up to the cap of 20 and use a Vaal Orb on it, it might become level 21.
Vaal Lightning Arrow Fires a barrage of piercing projectiles that cause lightning to strike nearby targets whenever they hit an enemy. After a short amount of time or when they collide with terrain, the arrows randomly change direction and continue flying. 0:40. 7:25 PM · Mar 30, 2023.
Vaal Orb can make items into something completely different; changing socket colors or improving unique items. Once corrupted, an item cannot be modified anymore so think twice before you vaal it! Unique Jewels: Some unique jewels, like Self-Flagellation, can only be gotten with Vaal orbs.
Hateforge has restrictions on where or how it can drop. It cannot be chanced. Can be obtained as a boss drop from the Trialmaster in an Ultimatum encounter.
Spells do not normally check for evasion. The chance to evade an attack is based on the defender's evasion rating, though the actual chance to be hit by an attack also depends on the attacker's accuracy. Because chance to hit cannot be lower than 5%, chance to evade cannot exceed 95%.
Secrets of Suffering is an item exclusive keystone passive skill. Upon taking it, the character will be unable to Ignite, Chill, Freeze or Shock enemies, but will inflict Scorch, Brittle, and Sapped upon a critical strike. However, the magnitude of the alt ailments still requires the matching elemental damage.
As true belief fades, the facade of faith grows, leaving you powerful but hollow. Corrupted Soul is a keystone passive skill which causes 50% Non-Chaos damage taken to bypass Energy shield and grants 15% of Maximum Life as Extra Maximum Energy Shield.
A melee attack that causes lightning to strike a targeted location or nearby enemy, dealing area of effect damage. Smite also grants an aura on hit which provides additional lightning damage to you and your allies for a short duration.
Because it lasts up to 1 minute, Searing Smite is classified as a Concentration spell, meaning your PC must focus on maintaining it (rather than casting other Concentration spells) for the duration.
Players can gain accuracy through skills, equipping items or dexterity, which gives 2 additional base accuracy per point. Characters also gain 2 base accuracy rating when leveling up.
