Does hydro seeding really work? ›

If you've got a little more money to spare, hydroseeding is an excellent choice. It will still take some time for the lawn to become fully established, but not as much time as traditional seeding takes. Hydroseeding will also yield a fuller, more lush lawn than with conventional seeding.

You can hydroseed an entire lawn yourself with the right equipment, or you can spot-fix an area with a DIY hydroseeding kit. Sure, you can get solid results on your own, but a local lawn seeding service can ensure the lushest, fullest coverage.

The two biggest disadvantages of hydroseeding are that this method requires intensive watering initially, and DIY hydroseeding is less effective than DIY sod or DIY traditional seeding.

Depending on the climate, watering, and seed mixture, hydroseed lawns typically begin to sprout within 5-7 days. If you continue with proper maintenance (starter fertilizer applied 3 times every 3-4 weeks) and don't experience any extreme weather conditions, your lawn will reach 3 inches long within a month.

Avoid walking on hydroseeded areas. Block children, pets, and other pedestrian traffic if possible to avoid disruption of the hydroseeded mulch or germinating seeds.

Hydroseeding over an existing or patchy lawn is possible with the right ground preparation, slurry thickness, and application. By taking a few steps before the actual hydroseeding, you can improve the chances of success and set your project up for a great-looking result.

Top soil ammendment is not always required. If you do plan to ammend the soil we recommend a 50/50 blend mix. If you do bring in top soil or rototil we suggest grading area afterward. We suggest you apply granular fertilizer (16-6-8) then water for ten days to bring up dormant weed seeds.
